The UAC (User Account Control) has proven its benefit again! When I teach classes, I normally hear about the woes of the UAC and am told stories about the problems it has caused (usually an extra click). Most people turn it off.
I also mention in class that Windows 7 has given more granular control over the UAC by offering differing levels of UACs and that as far as I can tell I’m the only one who has set it to the highest level of protection.

One of the things that the UAC does is makes ever user account have standard user privileges. This by default means no one is constantly logged on with Administrator privileges. As a result, the computer is protected against things running in the background that the user doesn’t know about. This is ultimately about protecting the computer. Hey folks! it’s been a while. Had to take a break for a while so that I could study for some up coming training I’ll be doing. But I’ll try and keep up as much as possible….

Today, I post about troubleshooting a Windows XP laptop that would bluescreen right before the “Knight Rider” bar. This particular issue was interesting. I tried to use a XP CD to run a repair install–the repair install was not an option…..hm.
My solution was to use a Windows 7 DVD instead to launch into the Recovery Environment and run some simple troubleshooting utilities via the command prompt. ~Ronnie

Here’s something that the profs at East Anglia should have done their research on to match their famous “Hockey Stick” graph! Spam has followed the progression of “global warming” now called climate change. I always tell our A+ students if you can figure out a way to rid the world of Spam, they will be Time magazine’s man of the year! take a look! ~Ronnie

The latest wireless standard sounds great…but confusing. Is there really a need for it? that’s just one of many questions…especially in an Enterprise. Is there really a value in migrating to the newer standard?

Windows 7 closing the loopholes with an optional update:

The Windows Activation Technologies Update for Windows 7, which will be released later this month, closes more than 70 “activation hacks,” according to Joe Williams, general manager of Microsoft’s Genuine Windows unit, responsible for anti-counterfeiting measures. The update will also check with a server periodically to see if there are further hacks that need to be addressed, though Williams said no personally identifiable information about the user will be sent to the server.
